Dalwhinnie Listed in the Halliday Wine Companion Top 100 Wineries 2023
We are thrilled to announce that Dalwhinnie has been listed at number 92 in the Halliday Wine Companion's Top 100 Wineries for 2023. We are also extremely proud to be the only Pyrenees winery to have made it onto this prestigious list.
According to Chief Editor Campbell Mattinson this is a list of "the best Australian producers of now."
"Arm yourself with these names and you can walk into any bottle shop in Australia, or peruse any Australian wine list, and be ripe to pick the eyes from it. These are the producers that, essentially, guarantee that you’ll drink well," Mattinson said. "In short, this is a list of producers who know, in their heart and in their head, that consumers don’t owe them a living. This is a list of producers who are prepared to stake their reputation on every single wine they release."
Dalwhinnie received high praise in the winery description:
“For some years now Dalwhinnie has been the sleeping beauty of Australian wine. No longer. The grapes here are grown on the most stunning of sites; it’s one of the few vineyards that every Australian wine lover should visit at least once. A recent change in ownership and winemaking has seen these Pyrenees wines roar back into elite contention. Welcome back, Dalwhinnie."
As James Halliday himself said, "Dalwhinnie only knows how to make great wines", and this is a philosophy we strive to achieve year in year out. We can't wait to see what the future brings for Dalwhinnie and we look forward to continuing to share our journey, and our iconic wines, with you.
Highly Reviewed in the Halliday Wine Companion
2020 The Pinnnacle Shiraz
"Fabulous wine. Powerful, complex and long. Pure plum into meaty spice into forest berries into fragrant herbs. You can taste the fruit, the soil and the wood, but it all presents as one. And then there's the finish. What a finish. Structured, textural, flavoursome and long. This wine is the complete package."

2020 Moonambel Chardonnay
"Hand-picked fruit, whole-bunch pressed, wild ferment in barrel, matured 9 months in barrel on gross lees. Fogarty Wine Group winemaker, Julian Langworthy, knows a thing or two about chardonnay. Here, he delivers a complex and elegant interpretation, bringing flinty minerals, pristine sherbety lemon and grapefruit with pear, peach skin and almond flavours into a restrained, harmonious whole. Lithe, juicy and delicious now, with some way to go."

2018 Moonambel Shiraz
"An assemblage of the best blocks from the Dalwhinnie original vineyard. Hand picked, vinified separately with some batches having 25% whole bunches included in ferment. Matured 20 months in French oak (30% new), followed by barrel selection and blending. Strikes a generous pose and colour. There's some pretty smart and attractive oak that is a big part of this wine's appeal. It contributes added gravitas, with wide-ranging influences from prominent spice to a toasty, smoky, mocha overlay. The ripe blackberry, plum, aniseed fruit loves it. Mouth-coating and long."

2018 The Eagle Shiraz
"Sourced from the original Eagle block below the winery. 25% whole bunches, 10 days on skins, pressed to new and 1yo French oak for mlf and 20 months' maturation. Best barrels selected. Dalwhinnie was bought by Fogarty Wine Group mid '20 and winemaker Julian Langworthy is noted as winemaker. The flagship red is a picture of elegance, with underlying strength and precision. Vibrant, dense plum red. Mediterranean spices, dates, blackberries and warm, toasty oak. Lush texture, with supple tannins make it imminently drinkable, but don't be tempted – the best is yet to come."
